Backwater Journal respects user privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected, used, stored, and shared when you use the Backwater Journal app or website.

Backwater Journal may collect the following types of information:

- Catch logs, journal posts, notes, comments, marketplace listings, and other user-created content.

- Approximate or precise location information when you use map, catch logging, nearby activity, or exploration features.

- Marketplace information such as listings, orders, seller/shop activity, and communication related to purchases.
How We Use Information

- Create and manage accounts.
- Provide catch logging, journaling, map exploration, species tracking, social features, and marketplace tools.
- Display user content according to privacy and sharing choices.
- Improve app performance, safety, reliability, and usability.
- Process subscriptions, purchases, marketplace activity, support requests, and account issues.
- Prevent abuse, fraud, spam, and unsafe marketplace behavior.
Location Information
Backwater Journal may use location data for fishing-related features, including maps, catch logs, nearby activity, saved places, and exploration tools. You can control location permissions through your device settings.
Sharing exact catch locations can be sensitive. You should be careful when posting location-based content publicly.
Photos, Videos, and Camera Access
Backwater Journal may request camera or photo library access so you can upload catch photos, journal images, listing photos, and profile images. Media is only uploaded when you choose to upload it.
User Content and Public Sharing
Journal posts, catch logs, comments, profile information, marketplace listings, and other content may be visible to other users depending on app settings and feature design. Do not post private information you do not want others to see.
Subscriptions and Purchase Information
Backwater Journal may offer optional paid subscriptions, premium features, or in-app purchases. Subscriptions and purchase management may be handled through Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat.
When you purchase, renew, cancel, or manage a subscription, Backwater Journal may receive limited purchase-related information, such as subscription status, product identifier, renewal status, expiration date, transaction identifiers, and purchase history. This information helps unlock paid features, verify active subscriptions, prevent fraud, troubleshoot payment issues, and provide customer support.
Backwater Journal does not directly collect or store full credit card numbers through RevenueCat. Payment processing is handled by Apple, Google, Stripe, or another applicable payment provider depending on where the purchase takes place.
RevenueCat may process purchase-related information on behalf of Backwater Journal as a subscription management service provider. RevenueCat may support purchase validation, entitlement tracking, analytics, and related technical operations.
Subscription data may be linked to a Backwater Journal account if you are logged in or if the subscription is associated with an app user ID. This allows premium access to be applied correctly across devices when supported.
Marketplace and Payment Information
Backwater Journal may support marketplace features where users can browse, list, buy, or sell fishing-related gear. Payment processing, seller onboarding, payouts, and transaction handling may be provided by Stripe or another third-party payment provider.
Backwater Journal does not directly store full payment card numbers. Marketplace-related information may be used to process orders, support buyers and sellers, reduce fraud, handle disputes, and maintain marketplace safety.
Third-Party Services
- Supabase for authentication, database, file storage, and backend services.
- RevenueCat for subscription management, purchase validation, entitlement tracking, and subscription analytics.
- Apple App Store for iOS purchases, subscriptions, billing, and refunds.
- Google Play for Android purchases, subscriptions, billing, and refunds.
- Stripe for marketplace payments, seller onboarding, payouts, and payment processing where applicable.
- Mapbox for map display, location-based features, and map-related services.
Data Storage and Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
Backwater Journal is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your Choices
You may be able to:
- Update account information.
- Adjust device permissions.
- Delete certain content where supported.
- Request account or data deletion.
- Manage subscriptions through Apple App Store, Google Play, or the platform where the purchase was made.
